What goes wrong with home appliances, according to real owners

We read thousands of owner reviews, remove the copies, and count what went wrong: which problem, how long they'd had it, which part failed and what fixed it. We're starting with dishwashers.

The short answer

We read 6,427 owner reviews of 3 dishwasher series. 490 of them describe something breaking. The problem reported most so far: Bosch 300 Series not drying (51 reports). Search for your model to see what its owners report.

The model number is on a label on the inside edge of the door.

Washers, refrigerators and ranges are next.

Promotional reviews (written for a free product or sweepstakes entry) never count toward failure numbers.

    How we count

    1. CollectOwner reviews from retailers, at every star rating.
    2. Remove copiesThe same review posted on several sites counts once.
    3. Read each oneIs it a failure or a design gripe? When did it start? Which part? What fixed it?
    4. Wait for enough reportsA problem gets a page only once at least 10 owners report it.

    What this site is

A count of what appliance owners have written. Every number sits next to what it's out of. We don't test appliances, rank them or call any of them defective, and nobody pays us to change a count.
